While examining
Peanut, Noah’s Ark staff noticed a suspicious spot of missing fur.
Spots were also found on Ladybug and Apple Jack. Concerned that the pups
might have ringworm, the staff immediately sent them for testing at a local
veterinary clinic. Our worst fears were confirmed just a few short hours
later. It was ringworm, a highly contagious fungal infection that causes
fur to fall out and crusty lesions to appear.
In many shelters across the country, ringworm is a death sentence. The risk of infection to other animals and humans is very high, so rather than chance other animals being infected, they choose to euthanize. Noah’s Ark makes every effort to save each and every animal that comes to our shelter. Noah’s Ark is not going to give up on these puppies! Thanks to the quick actions of Noah’s Ark staff, the puppies are now resting comfortably at a local veterinarian’s office where they will receive treatments until they are well and any risk of spreading ringworm is gone. They were quickly isolated and transported safely. A special cleaning was completed immediately to prevent any chance that other animals will come in contact with ringworm.
