![]() PetSmart Charities Rescue Waggin' Program Benefits Noah's Ark
Over 455 dogs from
Noah’s Ark have been now been accepted in the Rescue Waggin' program
sponsored by PetSmart
Charities. The Rescue Waggin’ is a national program designed to
increase the number of dogs adopted from shelters. Its goal is to take dogs
from overcrowded shelters in the Northeast, Great Plains, and Midwest to
shelters in cities where the demand for adoptable dogs exceeds the supply.
Since Rescue Waggin’ began the program in 2004, over 23,943
dogs have been transported and placed into homes. Noah’s Ark is the
first shelter in Iowa to be accepted into the program.
The Waggin’ is now transporting dogs, about once a month, from Noah’s
Ark to the Wisconsin
Humane Society in Milwaukee, WI and the Bay
Area Humane Society in Green Bay, WI. After they arrive in Milwaukee
or Green Bay, the dogs are evaluated and placed on the Adoption Avenue where
the average wait time for adoption is 24 to 48 hours.Noah’s Ark still encourages everyone to come to the shelter to adopt. There are still plenty of dogs in our area to do local adoptions and send dogs on the Waggin’. A Rescue Waggin' Happing Ending Story "I just had to share this story with you. I answered the phone at the shelter and it was a gentleman calling from Milwaukee, WI. He adopted the little dog JoJo from the Wisconsin Humane Society (one of our transports through the Rescue Waggin'). He is 79 years old and recovering from a stroke. He adopted JoJo and he is the light of this man's life. He called to thank us for taking such good care of JoJo. He said everyone loves the dog and from the moment JoJo walked into his new home, he has been the perfect gentleman! The only "negative" thing he had to say about JoJo was that in the morning he liked to lay in the sunshine on the breakfast table. He said they are making progress on that." |
