Buddy's Story...

Dear Noah’s Ark,

Tomorrow is a special day at our house – it will mark the second anniversary of the day Buddy (you called him Eban) joined our family. I remember when we were first introduced to Buddy I thought, “Oh, he’s too big and wild!” But it was just that he was so excited to meet the kids, and we could tell that he was a very sweet and friendly guy. When we brought him back to Des Moines, we drove past those two giant cows by AE Dairy. Buddy didn’t like them one bit and let loose with his deepest and loudest barking until they were out of sight. We still crack up every time we drive past those cows!

Buddy had been a country stray before he came to you, and it was obvious that at first he wasn’t comfortable inside a house. He didn’t want anything to do with furniture and was a little TOO interested in our pet rabbit! Needless to say, he now curls up in bed with our son every night and if someone watches TV on the sofa, he has to have his head on their lap. He’s even become buddies with Snowball the bunny.

We have another black-and-tan mixed breed, Sally, and people often ask if they’re litter mates. They really couldn’t get along any better. If Buddy goes outside first, he will wait by the door until Sally joins him, and then they’ll race around the yard and play-fight until they’re exhausted. We are very fortunate to have a large fenced lot, so they get lots of exercise and fresh air. Buddy has graduated from Obedience 1 & 2 and this spring will start Agility. He’s the kind of high-energy dog that seems happiest when he’s busy and challenged and it’s fun for us, too.

THANK YOU for saving Buddy from a hard, lonely, dangerous life in the country. He’s a lover who was meant to be with people and we’re so happy to be his family!

Sincerely,

The Ritchhart family
